The Philadelphia Flyers will attempt to sweep Alberta as they come into Edmonton to face the Oilers. Both teams have seen better starts to the season. The Edmonton Oilers have been the biggest disappointment in hockey so far, as they were Stanley Cup favorites to start the season…only to be sitting at second last place in the conference through the first quarter of the season. The Flyers, though starting well, had just snapped the NHL’s longest losing streak this season at ten two days ago in Calgary.

In essence, there is quite a lot to be made of this game. Two teams that are in the league’s dog house coming off wins against Calgary, and are looking to both get back on track.

However, one thought remains in the majority, as over 70% of many consensus’ have picked this game to go over. This is likely due to the plethora of high profile offensive players on both rosters, combined with the overall awful defense that both clubs have displayed over the course of time allowing 3 or more goals per game on average.

One thing that should be alarming to all bettors is the fact that the total was initially set at 6, but has dropped down to 5.5 despite the general lean towards a high scoring affair. This may have to do with the fact that Oilers forward Connor McDavid is experiencing a nasty flu, but it does not explain why the line has moved in Edmonton’s favor from the -120s to the -130s.

I’m going to assume that the sharps have seen something that would suggest this will be a low scoring outcome. In logical reasoning, both teams currently have a good thing going for them right now coming off wins. I would think both will be careful in their process to maintain their momentum, while knowing that one team has to lose. Expect the responsibility and caution to come in the form of defense.
