Sharks/Panthers:

We had a nice win with the San Jose Sharks in Philadelphia, and they once again displayed their ability to remain focused on the road. Today, they come into Sunrise to face the Florida Panthers in a revenge matchup, but this will be a different challenge.

Florida is coming off a nice little trip to the New York area, where they won against both the Devils and the Rangers. With their bad home ice and unique location characteristics, they also often have the advantage at home especially against Western Conference teams.

In all that has been said, this is a matchup that both teams have advantages in. However, both teams are also flying to other cities for tomorrow night. The Sharks will be looking for another revenge situation, and perhaps be even more focused against the Tampa Lightning tomorrow. The Florida Panthers may also be looking forward to facing a high energy Hurricanes team in a division battle tomorrow.

All in all, I think both teams will be taking a reserved approach today. Aaron Dell has been a solid back up for San Jose, and both teams have the ability to win on a defensive game. I think this is what both will try to resort to today.

Kings/Blues:

In a battle of Western Juggernauts, the St. Louis Blues will host the Los Angeles Kings in the second meeting this season. The first meeting also came at Scottrade, and was a 4-2 win by the Blues, so expect a revenge factor to be here. However, let us explore the situation.

The Kings have been a streaky team so to say this season, and things are starting to trend upwards again for them as they are now on a three game win streak. When LA is on, they are no joke. They have also been road warriors so far, with a 8-3-1 record away from Staples Center. While the goalie situation has not been confirmed, I have reasons to believe that this will be a battle of backups. This does not worry me, as I think the Blues are due for a bit of a slump after a 13-4 start to the season. In the last 8 games, the Blues are 4-4 SU, and I expect a bit of a speed bump to occur, as many of the players are scoring at particularly high rates through the first quarter. Very recent losses against Nashville and Anaheim prove that the Blues are starting become containable by physical teams, and the Kings are built as strong as they come.

With the amount of value in a revenge matchup, I have reasons to believe that this is a good situation to take the Kings to continue their winning streak. This is not a gauge of which of these two teams are overall better, but this is a good spot for things to be in Los Angeles’ favor.
