736 Iowa -2
#1 seed Iowa host #4 seed TCU at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena, today…Both teams are coming in off a win in the first game of the NIT…I am on the Hawkeyes in this one, as they have several Edges in their favor, which should help move them one game closer to Madison Square Garden…And below are some of those Edges.
Iowa will have the advantage today as they get to host this game at home, where they are a solid 15-5 SU and 10-6 ATS…In home games this season, the Hawkeyes have been averaging a healthy 85.5 ppg, 47.4% shooting from the field and 38.4% from long range…They also are averaging a solid 9 three-pointers made per game at home, as well.
Other good stats they have in home games, is that they are averaging 11 offensive rebounds per game…They also are getting opponents to commit an average of 22 personal fouls…and they are getting to line at home 25 times, while their opponents average just 17 trips…Iowa is a high scoring team and they average 19 assist, while committing just 13 turnovers pg.
Side Note: Iowa is averaging 17.5 assist per game, which ranks 5th in the nation.
TCU, on the other hand, has struggled on the road this season, going just 6-9 SU and ATS…In road games, they have averaged 71.3 ppg, 45.1% shooting from the field, and just 33.2% from long range…And, they also average 7 three-pointers made in road games…TCU in road games have been giving up 76.2 ppg, 46.8% shooting from the field, 37.2% shooting from long range and 76.1% from the line.
Several areas where the Hawkeyes will have an Edge is on the boards as they are grabbing an average of 39 rebounds, to TCU’s 33.8 reb on the road…In Iowa’s last game vs South Dakota, the Hawkeye’s out-boarded SD 37-to-30 and had an 18-7 in 2nd chance points.
Side Note: TCU in road games have a scoring margin of -5…and average just 8 offensive rebounds per game.
One area where TCU is poor in and what I see working in Iowa’s favor is the Horn Frogs are poor at getting to the FT line…In road games, they only are averaging just 16 trips to the line, while their opponents average 21 FTAs…Currently TCU is averaging just 68.1% overall in FT% shooting, which ranks 246th in the nation…At home, Iowa is averaging 25 trips to the FT line, while only allowing opponents 17 trips.
Side Note: In home games, Iowa gets opponents to commit an average of 22 fouls…while TCU in road games, opponents commit just 16.
Another area the Horn Frog are weak in, is in their 3pt FG% defense in road games…Overall, the Horn Frogs 3pt FG% defense is allowing 36.2%, which ranks 241st in the nation…This is where the high scoring Hawkeyes will look to exploit as they average a good 37.3% from long range, which ranks 70th in the country…And at home, they are averaging 24 three-point attempts and 9 treys per game.
Side Note: Iowa is averaging 11.2 three-pointers in their last 5 games.
Iowa already owns the 31st highest scoring offense in the nation…and in this matchup they should have the edge at the FT line and also from long range as well…The Hawkeyes defense also has the edge in steals averaging 7.5 steals per game, which ranks 30th in the nation…And they also are average forcing 15 opponents turnovers which ranks 62nd….While TCU is ranked 188th in forcing opponents turnovers at 12.8 pg.
Iowa enters this winning 5 of their last 6 games…while TCU has won 3 of their last 5 games…They will have the home field advantage as the Hawkeyes faithful should be coming out in droves with the Hawkeye being the #1 seed in the NIT.
Side Note: Iowa in their last game shot lights out…Scoring 87 points, shooting 56.5% (35-of-62) from the field and 43.5% (10-of-23) from long range, which included 10 three-pointers.
Side Note: Iowa and TCU played one common opponent in Iowa St…Iowa beat Iowa St 78-64 at home…TCU lost 2 of 3 to the Cyclones this season.
Side Note: Iowa’s bench has averaged 31.3 ppg in the Hawkeyes last 4 game winning streak…and 24.5 ppg overall for the season.
Bottom line is TCU has won 20 games overall this season, but was just 6-12 in conference play…Iowa won 19 games overall and went 10-8 in the Big Ten conference…This is the first time Iowa received the #1 seed in the NIT and they are excited for their opportunity of winning this prestigious tournament.
Today, they should have a strong home court advantage as the Hawkeye fans really support their team and is the reason why Iowa was able to go 15-5 at home this season…TCU has not found a lot of success on the road, winning just 3 of their 8 games away from home…And they wont find playing here an easy thing to do, especially as Iowa has a potent offense that is currently firing on all cylinders of late…Look for the Hawkeye’s senior guard Jok, who lead the Big Ten in scoring at 19.8 ppg to come up big in this game and get the Hawkeyes one game closer to Madison Square Garden……TODAY IT’S ALL HAWKEYES!
Side Note: TCU is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Side Note: TCU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.
Side Note: TCU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog.
Side Note: TCU is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs Big Ten opponents.
