Tuesday’s NCAA Hoops Play – 1/3/2017

TOP RATED PLAY ON:

Kent State -5.5

Back to the MAC we go…The Cardinals come into this game on a 5 game winning streak, while the Golden Flashes come in after stopping a 2 game slide with a huge upset at Texas as a -12.5 dog…These two teams should make some waves in the MAC conference this year…However, in today’s matchup I gotta side with the home team and below are the reasons why I like the Golden Flashes to bring home the win.

First off, the Golden Flashes are at home where they are 5-1 on the season, averaging a solid 90 ppg, 46.7% shooting from the field, 75.9% from the line and pulling down a whopping 48 rebs pg…while holding opponents to just 64.3 points, 36.6% shooting from the field and just 33.5 rebounds…In addition, on their court, Kent St is also grabbing an average of 16 offensive rebounds, 17 assist and 6 blocks, as well.

For the Cardinals, they are 4-2 on the road this season, where they are averaging a solid 77.2 ppg, 47.8% shooting from the field and grabbing 38 rebounds…while allowing opponents to average 74.7 ppg and 40.9% shooting from the field…However, one area that they are weak at is offensive rebounding as they only average 8 offensive rebounds in road games.

This is one of the areas where the Golden Flashes will have a huge advantage…as they are currently ranked #1 in the nation in offensive rebounding per game, averaging 18.08 offensive rebounds pg…Kent St is also ranked 4th overall in rebounding averaging a solid 44.8 rpg.

Ball St is ranked 45th in rebounding pg, but they are poor on the offensive rebounding where they average just 9.4 and just 8 offensive rpg on the road, which ranks 144th in the nation.

Side Note: Kent St out-boarded Oregon St 49-to-39 and Texas 53-to-34…both games were on the road.

Because Kent St is solid on the boards it has allowed them additional attempts at the rim, where they are currently ranked 7th in the nation in field goal attempts per game, averaging 66.1…This is approximately 9 more shot attempts then they allow to their opponents…Kent St doesn’t shoot the long ball to well…but, I will take double digit, second chance, higher% shots at home…where Kent St average shooting 46.4% in 2pt FG%, any day of the week.

In all, Kent St averages more points per game than Ball St…And they also average more shot attempts per games as well…Furthermore, in comparison to Ball St…Kent St will have the edge in ball control in this game as they will not only have a rebounding edge averaging 43.3 rebs to Ball St’s 37.4 rebs…They also average less turnovers per game at 10.9 to Ball St’s 15.3 pg…More block shots at 3.9 to Ball St’s 1.9 per game…And in steals averaging 8.1 to Ball St’s 4.2 steals per game.

Ball St does average more three’s per game at 8.7…compared to Kent St’s 6.8 three’s per game…But again, the Golden Flashes dominance on the boards will easily make up for that difference…And in addition to that, Kent St averages 22.4 FT attempts to Ball St’s 15.8 FT attempts…and that is another area where they have a better average shooting 71.6% to Ball St’s 67.8% shooting from the line.

Bottom line is that Kent St although coming into this game off of 3 terrible shooting % games…they still were able to win at Texas and it’s their ability to bang and dominate the boards at home, where this is being played, which is a big reason why I like them in this one…Tonight they open up conference play and I expect them to be fired up and full of confidence in this game…BTW, the Golden Flashes has dominated this series against the Cardinals, winning the last 10 straight up and going 9-1 ATS in that span as well…As I mentioned earlier, these two should make some noise in the MAC conference…But tonight the Golden Flashes will show that they are the better overall team…They are at home where they play the best ball and that should lead to a win in easy fashion….GO GOLDEN FLASHES!

Side Note: Ball St is just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall….and just 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog of 0.5-to-6.5 pts.

Side Note: Kent St is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games played at home…and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a home favorite of 0.5-to-6.5 pts.
